Dad, I almost got this, just one more try!

I grew up outside of Toronto, Canada. Our summers are short, but we make the most out of it. I learned how to waterski on long, wooden skis behind an undersized boat....but I loved it. Now, as a parent, I love to see my kids learning the joy of being pulled behind a boat on a sunny summer afternoon. My oldest son, Kyle, took to kneeboarding and wakeboarding fairly quickly. He's not doing any jumps just yet but loves to make hard cuts across the wake and show off to his buddies a bit. We picked up a wake skate last summer and I managed to get up on it a few times. Finally, this past summer, Kyle gave it a go. He tried and tried and tried to get up, without any luck. I kept giving him an out by saying, we can try again tomorrow. He wouldn't quit. He was determined to get up on the wake skate. He kept falling backwards and forwards, until finally, he got up and was able to make some bit cuts. The smile on his face was was clear to anyone watching from the shore. Dad, I almost got this, just one more try! He got it. Well done Kyle. I cannot wait until next summer to see what he can do with his newly acquired skills behind the boat.

Ok so last year was my first full season behind the boat. I had been struggling to get the balls to do a raley for some time. It was my first session of the day so I was fresh and I knew I had to try the raley. Of course we ride right by a boat full of girls so I said F it it's now or never lol. It didn't go so well... At least I probably looked pretty cool flying through the air I just went a bit to high and forgot to put my board back under me. Ya that was a pretty painful face plant lol hopefully I'll land a raley next summer.

The Day I Landed My First Backroll

Tis story began on a worm summers day in good ol sunny Queensland Australia. There was this boy named Jack who had been trying to land a bankroll for about a month now. He was starting to get a bit frustrated cause he just couldn't seem to ride away from the trick. One morning by the lake jacks mates said to him "You can do this, all you have to do is commit". So jack through on his gear and away he went. After his little warm up around the lake jack decided it was time to land his first backroll. He progressed hard into the wake, through his head into his stomach and half a second later he stuck the landing. Jack through the handle into the air whilst screaming "shut the front door I landed it" And from that day on that was jacks favourite session on the water. The day I landed my first backroll.

The time I passed out trying a raley

I and a group of my closest friends went to a place where you camp at night and wakeboard all day for a week straight. On day one we all fixed the little mistakes that we had picked up over the winter and once again started trying to be better than one another. That night when we got back to our campsite we all started claiming all of the tricks that we were going to stamp out by the end of the week. The next morning we all woke up to the sound of vomiting and when I looked over the side of my hammock I see my best friend puking last night's campfire dinner all over a tree just outside of our circle of hammocks. The morning when we set out the plan was to just try and land a 360. By lunch, we had all tried and failed but in the end, succeed. That afternoon we decided to try relays, I went first and on the first pass my board got caught on the landing and I went face first into the water. When I woke up from the crash I was lying face up with a terrible headache> As the boat came around I just took off the board and made my way to the nose where I went to sleep. When I woke up I still had a pounding headache and decided to spend the rest of my day wake surfing. That night I made a promise to land the trick by the end of the week and I did!

Me and one of my friends were coming back from a contest and we decided to go to jibtopia wake park. When we got their it started storming it wasn't to bad. But we had to wait on it to pass for the cables to open so while we were waiting we got some cheese burgers. While we were eating the main part of the storm was passing. We were sitting in this covered patio thing eating. About 10ft to 12ft away there was this wakeboard leaning agianst this tree and BOOM lighting hit the wakeboard and we could feel the heat off of the lighting. Then later that day we had awesome time riding and both landed new tricks.
